Background of Te Puna PHO |

Te Puna PHO LTD (Te Puna PHO) was constituted as a not for profit company commencing business on 1st July 2005. Te Puna PHO was established of which Te Puna Hauora o te Raki Paewhenua Society Incorporated held a 50% shareholding.

Te Puna PHO commenced with the involvement of two Health Services Providers namely Te Puna Hauora o te Raki Paewhenua Society Incorporated and Windsor Medical Centre. The area covered by the Te Puna PHO includes Te Raki Paewhenua (North Shore City) from Devonport to Whangaparaoa and draws its enrolled population primarily from Birkdale, Beachhaven, Glenfield, Northcote and Mairangi Bay. |

The Te Puna PHO office is sited at 166 Birkdale Road, Birkdale but its two affiliated Health Service Providers are physically based in Northcote, Birkdale (Maori Health Provider – Te Puna Hauora o te Raki Paewhenua Society Incorporated) and Mairangi Bay (Asian Medical Centre – Windsor Medical Centre). |

Te Puna PHO is an innovative organisation based upon a strong Maori Kaupapa. The overall strategic intent is to Reduce Health Inequalities. Te Puna PHO prioritises people who have the highest needs (Maori and non-Maori) and have developed tailored services to reduce not only health inequalities but also social and cultural inequalities. |

Success is seen via enrolment, growth since establishment in 2005. In 2005, the PHO had 5,742 enrolees; as at March 2007, the PHO has 10,594 enrolees. This represents (Approx) 50% growth over only two years. |
